Protecting Minors
Limiting access to players 19 and older
Charlottetown Casino accepts adults aged 19+ only. Anyone younger than that may not register an account, fund it, play any Lobby, Live Casino or Jackpots game, or join Promotions or Charlottetown Rewards.
- Players may join only from regions whose laws permit online gambling. We meet Canadian rules on age and identity checks and on anti-money-laundering controls.
- We verify age ahead of the first deposit, rather than waiting until a first withdrawal.
- All of our advertising targets adults, and it never relies on imagery or themes meant to attract children.
- Registering with false or borrowed details is a breach of our Terms & Conditions.
Securing shared devices
A single laptop, tablet or phone is often shared by everyone in a household. If a casino account stays logged in on that device, a child can reach it easily. Account holders bear genuine responsibility for this.
- Always log out properly at the end of a session rather than simply shutting the browser tab.
- Never let a browser or password manager store your Charlottetown Casino login on a family device.
- Protect the phone or computer with a PIN, password or fingerprint lock that children do not know.
- Keep payment cards, Apple Pay, PayPal, Paysafecard vouchers and MuchBetter access away from children.
- Never let anyone under 19 watch you play or place a bet on your behalf.
- On shared computers, set up your own user profile so that your sessions and history remain private.
Checking every player's age
A tick box is not enough for us. Every new account follows the same steps before any deposit:
- To register, you must provide your date of birth, full name and residential address.
- We check these details electronically against independent data sources.
- Where the electronic check gives no clear result, we ask for government-issued photo identification and may also require a live selfie.
- We use geolocation to confirm that the player is in a permitted location.
- Each payment method has to be in the account holder's own name, which gives an extra layer of age assurance.
- Checks are carried out again if account details change, if activity appears inconsistent with the profile, or if someone raises a concern.
The documents we accept are listed in our Anti-Money Laundering Policy.
Using parental controls and filtering tools
Our checks stop a minor from holding an account. Parental controls help stop a minor from reaching a gambling site at all. We recommend that parents and guardians combine several layers:
- Switch on the parental controls in the app store and the device's operating system, and apply age-based content restrictions.
- Install filtering software that stops access to gambling categories in every browser.
- Apply filtering at the home router or through your internet provider so every device on the network is covered.
- Set screen time limits and require approval for new apps and purchases.
- Check browser history and payment statements for unfamiliar gambling activity.
Conversation matters as much as software. The YMCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program offers education on gambling for young people, parents and educators, and the Responsible Gambling Council provides guidance for families.
Responding when a minor is found
- We suspend the account at once and then close it.
- All bets are made void and any winnings are forfeited, including bonus funds and Charlottetown Rewards points.
- Once the owner of the funds has been confirmed, we refund the deposits via the same payment method that was used to make them.
- Where a minor has used an adult's account, responsibility stays with the adult account holder, and we may close that account under our Terms & Conditions.
- The details involved are blocked so that nobody can use them to open another account.
- Where the circumstances suggest fraud or a child at risk, we may inform the relevant authorities.
Reporting a concern
If you believe someone under 19 is using a Charlottetown Casino account, or that your details were used without your permission, email [email protected]. If you know it, give the username or email address tied to the account. All reports are handled confidentially and promptly, and the identity of the person reporting is never disclosed. To learn how we treat personal details in a report, see How We Handle Your Data.
