Anti-Money Laundering Policy
Understanding why we verify
Charlottetown Casino only accepts players in places where this is allowed under local law, and we comply with Canadian requirements on age, identity checks and anti-money laundering. Verification protects you, fellow players and the integrity of every game in our Lobby. It establishes that the account holder is a real adult, that the funds being played are their own, and that payouts go to the right person.
- We verify each account before accepting its first deposit.
- Geolocation checks that your location is one where play is permitted.
- Deposits start from C$10 and withdrawals from C$50, in Canadian dollars (CAD), with no casino fees on either.
- Withdrawal limits depend on the method used and the status of the account.
- Higher limits, including those available to VIP Club members, call for a higher level of verification.
Monitoring accounts on an ongoing basis
Our checks continue after registration. Trained staff and automated systems monitor accounts for behaviour that is inconsistent with the player's normal profile, such as:
- Deposits that are large, frequent or out of line with previous activity.
- Money deposited and then withdrawn after minimal play.
- Several payment methods, or methods held by other people, used on one account.
- Logins from changing locations, or from devices linked to other accounts.
- Attempts to move value between players, including at Live Casino tables.
An alert is not proof of wrongdoing. It simply prompts a closer look, and we may get in touch to ask for more information.
Confirming identity and age
At registration, we compare your details with reliable independent data sources. If an electronic check cannot confirm your identity, our team will ask for documents, which you can upload in your account's Verification section.
Documents we accept
- Identity: an unexpired photo ID from a government authority, such as a Canadian passport or driver's licence, that shows your photograph, full name and date of birth.
- Address: a recent document such as a bank statement, a utility bill or government correspondence, with your full name and residential address on it.
- Payment method: proof that you own each method you use: a bank statement showing Interac e-Transfer or Bank Wire / Transfer, a screenshot of your PayPal or MuchBetter account, or a photo of your Visa or Mastercard with the middle digits hidden and the security code covered.
- Selfie: when requested, a real-time picture showing you with your identity document in hand, allowing us to confirm the document belongs to you.
Each document must be in colour, legible, not cropped and still valid. The name shown on every document must be the same as the account name.
Keeping records and meeting reporting duties
- We keep identification records, transaction records and notes from our checks for the period Canadian law requires, and this obligation continues once an account is closed.
- These records are stored securely and are accessible only to authorised staff, as described in How We Handle Your Data.
- Suspicious transactions, and any other transactions the law obliges us to report, are reported to Canada's financial intelligence authority.
- Legally, we cannot disclose to any player whether we have filed a report or are considering one.
- We cooperate with lawful requests from Canadian authorities.
Asking about source of funds
At certain stages we may ask about the source of the funds you gamble with and, in some cases, how you accumulated your overall wealth. Triggers can include high deposit totals, sudden increases in activity, joining the VIP Club and large withdrawal requests. Helpful evidence includes:
- Recent payslips or an employment letter.
- Bank statements that show a salary or another regular income.
- Paperwork confirming that you sold property, an investment or a business.
- Evidence of an inheritance, legal settlement or gift.
We assess this information in confidence. Play may be paused while the check is open, and we aim to complete it as quickly as the documents allow.
Handling failed or incomplete checks
- Deposits, play and withdrawals are suspended until checks are complete.
- Where documents are missing, altered or belong to another person, the account may be closed.
- Winnings gained through fraud, false identity or a breach of our Terms & Conditions are void, and bonus funds are removed under our Bonus and Promotion Rules.
- Deposited funds that are not subject to a legal hold are returned to their original source after closure.
- If we are legally required to hold funds or submit a report, we will do so, and we may be unable to tell you why.
Checking for sanctions and politically exposed persons
Every player is screened at registration, and regularly after that, against Canadian and international sanctions lists and against databases of politically exposed persons.
- Accounts are never opened or maintained for sanctioned individuals, and funds are frozen whenever the law requires it.
- Being a politically exposed person, or a relative or close associate of one, is not by itself a reason for refusal. These accounts undergo enhanced checks, including source of wealth, and require senior approval.
- If you currently have, or previously had, a prominent public role, let us know by email.
